Freelance Solution Architect (Azure) – Antwerp region

For a client in the Antwerp region, we're looking for an experienced Solution Architect who combines strategic architectural vision with a hands-on mindset. You'll define and govern solution architecture principles while contributing to operational and lifecycle management on Azure environments.

What you'll do

• Define and govern high-level solution architecture principles, aligned with enterprise standards and long-term strategy
• Guide Agile teams in translating architecture into implementable designs, independent of any specific tech stack
• Design and oversee cloud-native and hybrid solutions on Microsoft Azure (scalability, security, resilience)
• Act as technical advisor across business, functional, and technical domains, ensuring consistent architectural direction
• Drive non-functional requirements: performance, reliability, security, maintainability
• Support Azure platform LCM: certificate/identity management, maintenance and upgrades, monitoring and operational improvements

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science (or equivalent through experience)
• 5+ years of proven experience in Solution Architecture
• Strong communication skills: you coordinate diverse stakeholders, lead meetings, and present architectural decisions
• Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Conceptual, strategic thinking combined with a hands-on, pragmatic mindset

Nice to have

• Broad expertise across application, integration, and cloud architecture, with no dependency on a single stack
• Strong Microsoft Azure experience (designing and governing cloud environments)
• Familiarity with modern patterns (microservices, event-driven, API-first, BFF)
• DevOps, CI/CD, and Azure LCM topics (monitoring, identity, security, governance)
• .NET and/or React are a plus, not a primary focus
